10 Things

Good jeebus, the heat has really kicked in this past week!  I knew we were in for it when June Gloom held on for longer than usual, because that’s karma, right? :) Luckily it’s supposed to be a bit cooler on Saturday, just in time for a lovely little backyard wedding that I’ll be shooting that afternoon.
Anyways, blah blah blah as to why the number one spot of Things Making Me Happy this time goes to:

1. Central air conditioning. Thank Thor that was a must for Nikki when she was home shopping. :) And I can’t wait to go jump in the community pool once we move!

2. The Help. I must be the last person on the planet to pick it up, but I’m so glad I did. I finished it in three days and I’m re-reading it now because I tend to read really quickly, and I wanted to go back and better absorb Stockett’s wonderful prose. And maybe I’m not ready to part with the characters just yet.

3. Dante’s squeaky ball addiction.

It’s ridiculously cute, you guys. I went and got him some more wee squeaky tennis balls this week (he goes through maybe a dozen a year due to breakage, smelliness, falling behind couches, etc.) and he was ECSTATIC. He played so hard he started panting! He can entertain himself for hours. It’s why I put up with the constant squeaking noise. How can I say no to that face?

4. Skindinavia’s No More Shine Makeup Finish spray. I’ve been using it for over a year, and with the heat + humidity this week I’ve been especially reminded of how much I love it! My makeup would be even more of a mess by the end of the day if I didn’t use it every morning.

5. Rifle’s new notebooks. I’m obsessed with Rifle, wish I could afford their custom paper products, but in the meantime I’ll settle for these perfect little notebooks (and the card sets Katie got me for Christmas). :) I can’t be the only one who’s a sucker for paper goods like these, right?

6. Bug Repellent Perfume Serum. Must’ve been invented by a woman who was tired (like me) of smelling like stinky bug repellent all summer! Thanks to the crazy amounts of rainfall we got last winter, it seems like we have more bugs than ever. You can’t avoid the citronella scent with this, but it’s light and mixed with other good scents, and a million times better than Off spray. So far it’s performing well

7. Sitting out on the patio at my parents’ house. It never gets old. And having decent bug repellent helps me enjoy it a LOT more.

8. A new treat jar for Dante. I couldn’t help myself. Just look how cute it is! I wanted something that would keep his treats fresh, look good on the counter and keep me from having ten different bags from the store. Check, check and check! I did think about going vintage but they tend not to have a freshness seal.

9. Bones on Netflix. I’ve slowly but surely managed to make my way through all five seasons in order. Love that show! I’d only seen episodes here and there so it was great to get the whole story. And there’s nothing like starting to reach for the remote when it hits the commercial break bit and realizing you don’t have to fast forward! :)

10. Star Wars on Blu Ray. Comes out September 15th. You know I’ll be pre-ordering! Mostly because it’s about darn time I upgraded, I still have my VHS set. Makes me feel oooooold.

So what’s floating your boat lately? Dish!

For Your Entertainment

Ellingsen Photography Upside Down Sprocket

Since I’ve been in bed with a migraine pretty much nonstop since Friday, today I’m taking the easy way out, blogland-style. As in, here’s some links to great blog posts other people have done. :)

1. A super cute wood art project over on Young House Love.

I’m seriously obsessed with their blog. Not only do they do awesome DIYs constantly, but both husband and wife blog and I just love their sense of humor and warmth in the way they write. Please don’t tell me I’m the only one with a blogger crush….

2. The Photographer’s Workout over on I Heart Faces. It’s so true. If you don’t come home sore from a session, you haven’t worked hard enough! ;)

3. Keiko Lynn’s Adele-inspired makeup tutorial. Adele + makeup? What’s not to love? Keiko Lynn’s blog is absolutely adorable and I just love her style.

4. Succulent Place CardsI’m totally doing these as favors the next time I have a party – fingers crossed it’s Nikki’s housewarming! (I’m blaming you, mom, for my succulent addiction!) {Found via Oh Hello Friend.}

Last but not least, for those of you who are local, I’m hoping you’ll join me and all the awesome Seal Beach Animal Care Center supporters at their annual Wine Tasting event coming up on the 18th! I’ll be there, and I’m super excited to share that one of the auction items is a photo session with yours truly. Wine tasting and a great cause – it’s a win-win! I hope to see you there!

I’ll be back tomorrow with more original content, promise. Hope you guys had a better weekend than I did!

P.S. Photo above is an upside-down Sprocket (my other brother’s dog), taken almost exactly a year ago. He likes to entertain people, too. :)

Dreaming of Home

So my BFF and I are officially house hunting (for her, I’ll be renting a room), and I couldn’t be more excited! Not only because it means we’re entering a new stage in our lives, and I’m super proud of her for being able to buy a home before she’s 30 (an especially big deal when you live in Orange County), but also because we’re finally going to be roomies! :) We’ve only been dreaming about this for, oh, fifteen years.

While we’re working on finding just the right place for her and I (and Dante too!), I’ve been playing at interior designer and just had to share some of the prettier things and great DIY tutorials I’ve found around the interwebs.

I’m obsessed with the bright yellow and grey/neutrals combo right now, isn’t it so pretty? Relaxing yet sunny, and you can really play with pattern and texture. The center image is my main inspiration, from Angela Hardison’s home as featured on Design*Sponge (she’s a graphic designer – surprised much?).

Clockwise from top left:

We’ll be on a tight budget, so some of these are not on my actual shopping list, but you can do a whole lot with some paint, varnish and sandpaper! We’ll be doing some serious thrifting and Goodwill-hopping. We also have most of the essentials in terms of kitchen supplies and furniture, so I’ve been daydreaming about how we can play with what we have already. Here’s some DIY tutorials that I’m loving:

So link us up, friends! What DIY projects have you loved lately?

I'm Pinterested

I apologize for the lame title, but every time I see “Pinterest” I think Pinterested! :)

If you haven’t checked it out yet, Pinterest is basically an online inspiration board with a social networking function. You can create boards for different things (I use it for fashion, photography, quotes, home decor, etc.), pin pretty things you find anywhere on the web, and follow your friends’ pins and snag them for yourself. This is perfect for bloggers because they can keep boards for different blog posts, and links back to the original source is maintained. It’s also a dream for photographers, who typically love to gather inspiration too!

You can follow my boards here – come by and friend me, I’d love to see what’s inspiring you lately! And here’s what I’ve been drooling over…

So fun! And addicting – don’t say I didn’t warn you!
