Lora & Pecan

Lora and Pecan are truly two peas in a pod. Whatever fortune led to Lora rescuing Pecan from a family that couldn’t keep her anymore, it was definitely meant to be! I had so much fun with them at El Dorado Regional Park in Long Beach one golden afternoon a few weeks ago.

Isn’t Lora seriously stunning? Not to mention she’s a hot-shot young lawyer. And Pecan has the best smile!

The sweater just slays me! Gotta have pink for the princess! :)

Eventually we had to get poor Pecan out of sight of the ducks, because she was just itchin’ to go catch herself some dinner…

Pecan’s little stub tail is just the cutest.

Bow Ties Are Cool

I figure if bow ties are cool enough for Doctor Who, then they’re cool enough for Dante.:)

Dante in his Dog Bow Tie Collar by Camargo Creations

In the leadup to Christmas, I couldn’t help but snag one of these adorable dog bow ties from Etsy seller Camargo Creations for Dante. It comes with a plain black collar, but is detachable so you can put it on any collar you want. And the fabric is so gorgeous in person! It’s a lovely cranberry/wine colored satin.

Camargo Creations has all kinds of super cute collars, doggie wedding apparel, placemats and custom orders. Plus, the man behind the shop not only fosters dogs and volunteers, but also donates 10% of sales to a local rescue organization. How wonderful is that?

So dish, fellow pet parents. Do your pups actually like to wear anything? I can get away with a bow tie because Dante is used to wearing his collar. I also have a fleece coat for cold night walks, which he of course hates but tolerates if it means a walk.

xoxo

*Disclaimer: Camargo Creations has no idea I’m sharing this writeup on my blog. I just loved the collar!

Why Pet Owners Are Really Parents

I often wonder at those pet “owners” who don’t consider themselves parents. Looking at everything I do for and with Dante, I can’t understand why you would call yourself anything but a parent. Just think about it…

  • I bathe him regularly
  • I buy him gifts
  • I feed him regularly
  • We go for walks
  • I have cleaned up more of his bodily fluids than I care to think about
  • We play with his toys
  • I dress him in clothes he really doesn’t want to wear
  • I make him sit and stay when he’s hyper
  • He has a regular sleep schedule
  • I arrange for a sitter when I’m not going to be home
  • We went through potty training together
  • I soothe him when he’s sick
  • We go to the park
  • I take him to parties
  • We celebrate his birthday

…and so on. If you didn’t know “he” referred to my dog, couldn’t these all apply to a human child? Of course, it goes without saying that having human babies is a much, much bigger commitment, but I don’t think I’ve ever referred to myself as anything other than a parent. Owner doesn’t even begin to cover it, and to me is totally inappropriate.

What do you guys think?

xoxo
