Instagram Love :: April Photo-A-Day

In April I finally decided to join in on an Instagram photo-a-day challenge that I’d seen floating around the interwebs. What I love about this monthly challenge, by Fat Mum Slim, is that there’s a theme each day. Having done other daily photo projects, I found I was really motivated by that extra challenge to work within the theme. It was so fun! Here’s a few of my favorites from the month. You can see the whole set here if you’re interested. I’m not doing May, but I’m pretty sure I’ll join in again this year!

April 1st – A very original self portrait in the (dirty) side mirror

April 2nd – Colour: strawberry blonde hair and mint green cardigan

April 4th – Someone who makes me happy: Dante!

April 9th – Younger me with my mom up in the mountains for a snow day

April 11th – Eating breakfast at my desk

April 12th – Crazy-eyed Dante on the stairs

April 16th – A riot of pink flowers, and Dante

April 21st – Bottle of my all-time favorite hand cream from Aveda, always by my bedside

April 24th – Something I’m grateful for? My mom!

April 25th – Looking down at my book (polish color is Essie’s To Buy or Not To Buy)

April 26th – Black and white of the back of The Night Owl, our new favorite coffee shop

April 28th – 1pm: mini carnations on the table at lunch

So do you guys like photo-a-day challenges? Link me up! Also, a sidenote – the last couple were taken and processed with the new VSCO Cam app, which you should go and get right now if you like iPhoneography as much as I do! The filters are gorgeous. Right now it’s only 99 cents, which is a super steal.

Instagram Love :: March Madness

This month has definitely been a bit mad, because I blinked and it’s the 23rd. I’m hoping to take some time this weekend to slow down and get all those little things done that tend to fall by the wayside when more urgent tasks demand your attention!

Here’s a sampling of what’s been going on ’round these crazy parts in the last month…

Ellingsen Photography Instagram Love March Madness

  • G is for green nails, remembering grandma and good luck on a date
  • I love seeing the horse tracks on our walks down to the lake
  • Trying out a new type of film, can’t wait to see the results!
  • Spent a day in LA with my girls, starting with lunch at Luca on Sunset (fantastic!)
  • Followed lunch up with a trip to the Natural History Museum, which was so much fun
  • Love all the bougainvillea that’s blooming in my neighborhood

Ellingsen Photography Instagram Love March Madness-2

  • Dante loves to rest his chin, half the time it’s on one of my appendages (in this case, my leg)
  • Brought home tons of jasmine from my parents’ plant tree, the house smelled sooooo gooooood
  • This dress makes me happy (found on the sale rack at Anthro last fall)
  • Anybody missing a parrot?
  • FINALLY got my hair cut after about four months, I think that’s the longest I’ve gone in ages. Felt so good!
  • Dinner with some amazing photogs (Ami, Nancy and Netonya) before heading to see Jasmine Star at The Fix

Also, I’m happy to report that Dante had a great birthday yesterday, with lots of chicken added to his usual dinner, tons of belly rubs and an extra long walk. It can be hard to tell unless you know him, but he’s super happy in this photo. :)

So what do you have planned for this weekend, friends? Can you believe it’s almost Easter?

Instagram Love :: Winter in SoCal

They don’t call it sunny Southern California for nothin’, and this winter has been especially mild, even for us! Just a few rainy days, some cold days in December but otherwise pretty mild. And today it’s supposed to get up to 80! No complaints here, I just wish daylight savings would hurry up so we could enjoy the weather more.:)

Here’s what my iPhone has been seeing lately (I’m @ellingsenphoto on Instagram)…

  • Dante showing off our new inside welcome mat (well, it’s more of a goodbye mat and always gets this song in my head)
  • On our dam adventure
  • I tried out a local ranch market and got all of this for $4.52!
  • I was a bad, bad girl
  • Happy first birthday to Cassidy!
  • On laundry day, a fuchsia sundress + sweater tights is totally acceptable

  • It poured for hours one Saturday morning, so Dante and I snuggled under the electric blanket and watched movies on Netflix
  • Attempting to beat my friends at Settlers of Catan…not successful. But it’s a super fun game!
  • Peekaboo!
  • We had a few pea soup mornings
  • Perfect weather for a long walk with my mom and Dante
  • He makes for good migraine day company

When I’m at home on the computer, I use Webstagram to keep up with my feed. And I’m really thinking about ordering some Stickygrams – fridge magnets out of Instagrams! :)

Instagram Love :: December Daily Part Deux

A few weeks ago I shared that I was doing an Instagram-a-day for December. I’ve been really missing Project 365 (I did it in 2009 and 2010), and this was a way to dip my toes back in the photo-a-day lake and see how I felt about it. The result: I don’t know why I ever stopped! It’s such a fantastic challenge and a way to keep your perspective fresh and ever-evolving. Full disclosure: I did miss two days. But that’s life, right? So for 2012 I’ll be doing Project 52 (a photo a week instead of a day), and I’m so excited. You can see the first week here. And for inspiration, the amazing Tracey Clark is working magic with an Instagram-only Project 365, and my lovely friend Melanie is doing her own version of the Hill Project, in addition to P365! If these busy women can do it, we all can, right?

So anyhoo, here’s the rest of December, aka one of the craziest months on record for me!

  • December 19th ~ This mini-stocking packaging for my fudge looked a lot cuter in my head.:)
  • December 20th ~ Lunch at Bottega Louie with Nancy during our day trip to downtown LA.
  • December 21st ~ And we watched a Dante of gold… (sorry, closet Sting fan here)
  • December 22nd ~ A migraine day, but couldn’t sleep so I distracted myself with a HIMYM marathon (it’s on Netflix now!).
  • December 23rd ~ We had the girls over for a Friends’ Christmas celebration, and Nikki gifted me this gorgeous Moorea Seal ring I’ve been drooling over for ages!
  • December 24th ~ Christmas dinner table is all set (we celebrate Christmas Eve).
  • December 25th ~ Dante looking very handsome in his special Christmas collar (this one by Etsy shop Camargo Creations). Bow ties are cool (as all Doctor Who fans know).
  • December 26th ~ Extended the holiday a bit by spending half the day reading my new book, the next in the Outlander/Lord John series by Diana Gabaldon (so good!).
  • December 27th ~ Loved all the angles on this crazy tree.
  • December 28th ~ I got the electric throw I was wishing for, and Dante has effectively claimed it for himself. Shocker.
  • December 29th ~ Busy day at the office.;)
  • December 31st ~ Rewarded myself with a pumpkin spice latte after Sarah and I photographed a record number of pups at the shelter!

So what about you guys? Doing any photo projects this year? Or do you have another kind of resolution or project you’re committing to?

xo

Instagram Love :: December Daily

I was inspired to do an Instagram-a-day this month, thanks to lovely digiscrap friends like Ms Britgirl who do a scrapbook page per day, to document December. I figure the least I can do is a photo a day during this month that I love so much, right? Well, I missed the first, so don’t judge, but here’s what I’ve been up to thus far.

  • 2nd ~ The results of the crazy-strong winds we had
  • 3rd ~ Took my mom out to lunch, just the two of us:)
  • 4th ~ First twinkle lights are up!
  • 5th ~ Dante’s new favorite toy. Squeaky snakes in the “grass”. And yes, all “Snakes on a Plane” jokes have already been made.
  • 6th ~ Knit socks from Norway are coming in real handy with it down in the 40s at night!
  • 9th ~ It’s beginning to look like a crazy month…

  • 10th ~ All set up for our local Help Portrait event (more on that soon)
  • 11th ~ Twinkle lights and fake candles on the mantel
  • 12th ~ Gloomy day with rain nonstop
  • 13th ~ Added crushed candy canes to my fudge for the shelter’s holiday party
  • 15th ~ Oh HAI ornament self portrait!
  • 18th ~ Tree shopping with my dad and brother

Well my weekend got a bit derailed by a killer migraine that had me in bed Friday night through Sunday morning. How about you guys?

xoxo
