Sisters

This was just a quickie session, out on the front porch of my parents’ home while Auntie Elissa was visiting. Lucky for me she and my mom crack each other up, so all I really needed to do was put them in good light and click-click-click.:)

This is Elissa’s classic “I just said something witty/inappropriate” expression.;)

My mom and aunt surpassed sisterhood a long time ago and, somewhere along the line, became best friends. I love capturing their relationship! Makes me get a twinge of wistfulness that I don’t have a sister of my own, but then I just think about Nikki and Mindy and Nancy and Katie and Melissa…and I realize I haven’t missed out on much at all. I’m incredibly, incredibly lucky.

Miss you Auntie Princess!

Love in Long Beach

This family was the highest bidder for a session I donated to the Seal Beach Animal Care Center’s wine tasting and auction fundraiser a few months ago, and I was thrilled when they said they wanted to do a session in their own backyard. My favorite kind! She’s been volunteering at the shelter for years and of course all the pets are rescues.

When I arrived one Sunday last month to find they live in a super cute historic home in Long Beach, I knew we were going to have a great time. Their lush oasis of a backyard was the perfect setting to photograph them, two by two – two cats, two dogs, two kids, and two adults, all full of love.

Can you tell we had fun? They were such a joy to work with. And I’d kill for mischievous dimples like little mister has.:)

I Heart My Family

Took these when we got together to celebrate my mama’s birthday last week – dinner at In-N-Out (her request!) followed by gifts and hot fudge sundaes at home. Pretty darn awesome.:)

I’m so glad they realize resisting my camera is futile; it’s better to just smile and let me move on.

My new favorite photo of my parents, along with a couple of me and mom that my dad graciously took:

(Can you tell I’m growing out my bangs? It’s taking for-ev-er.)

My dad has been addressing things to her this way for years. Don’t judge by her expression, she still cracks up after all this time!

It’s also family tradition to wear the bows and ribbons that come with your gifts.:)

I heart them, a lot.

Siblings & Cake

Both my brothers are younger than me, but I’ve been the shortest one for at least ten years. I’ve just about come to grips with that. And yes, we totally coordinated our shirts….ha.

My dad graciously snapped this for me back in June when we got together to celebrate Lars (the one on the left) and his girlfriend Sarah’s birthdays – they’re a day apart (say it with me now: Awwwwww). Love how they’re obediently smiling because mom and I  held dinner hostage until we got a few photos together!:)

We all sat down to enjoy an amazing spaghetti dinner followed by icebox cake that my mom made using her mother’s recipe. Soooooo goooooood.

You guys, this cake is a total deceptacon. It looks all light and fluffy and delicious so you cut yourself a regular piece, and then you’ve overcome by the dense cream halfway through and no one sitting at the table can finish what’s on their plate! So don’t come back here and say I didn’t warn you. (You can find a great recipe for icebox cake over at Smitten Kitchen.)

A totally random post from your friendly neighborhood photographer. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

xoxo

P.S. I’m closely following the news this morning that there was a bombing in Oslo. The Guardian seems to have the best updated news right now. So disturbing. My heart goes out to my motherland.

The Glowin Family

As previously mentioned, I spent Easter with my BFF’s family while my parents were off celebrating their 30th anniversary. So I knew this was my chance to get some new photos while they were all together! Grandma Glowin wasn’t going to evade me this time! She really hates having her portrait taken, but I managed to guilt convince her into taking just a few.:)

We started off with Katie and her boyfriend Colby, a seriously awesome guy that happens to be an amazing graphic designer. In fact, he did my logo and also runs a fantastic LA-inspired t-shirt company called County of Angels.

These two never fail to make the whole room laugh, wherever they go. Love them!

Once I convinced Grandma that “family photos” included her, she gave me these gorgeous faces:

The girls with dad:

Did I mention the whole family has a great sense of humor? Check out Mitch above – what a ham!:)

The smiles in this photo are courtesy of Grandma flashing them. No, I’m not kidding. I turned around to find her lowering her shirt with a cheeky grin on her face. Further evidence of her awesomeness.

And all together now:

Thanks again for hosting me, adopted family! Glad I was able to pay you back.:)Love you!
