Adopt the Internet Day

In honor of Petfinder.com’s 15th birthday, they’re having a huge “Adopt the Internet Day“ to promote pet adoption. Having a rescued dog myself, I couldn’t help but add my voice! {You can read more about Dante’s adoption story here.} My brother’s pup Anja was found thanks to Petfinder, plus both my parents’ cats! Pets like them help dispel the myth that shelter/adopted pets are the “tough cases”. I beg to differ! In fact, at the shelter where I volunteer the majority have either been surrendered because the owners has had some kind of financial difficulty (not surprising with the unemployment and foreclosure rates being higher here than the national average), or they were just found on the street.

You can become a part of the movement by clicking the image above, or just telling a friend about the awesomeness that is a rescued pet.

I hope to add to my pack of one someday, so here’s a few sweet faces in my area, to tempt us all:

This is Franco, a three-year-old Italian Greyhound. Can you believe that sweet face? He’s being fostered by the Italian Greyhound Rescue group, who I was in touch with before I randomly found Dante at the SBACC. They’re a wonderful organization!

And then there’s Carmello, part of a brood of Greyhound/Irish Wolfhound mixes. I can’t handle the cute! If only I was moving to a bigger place, darnit.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – I don’t know where I’d be if I didn’t have Dante in my life. Cheers to all the people who have rescued pets, and here’s hoping there will be many more joining the ranks!
