My parents both have super green thumbs (I’m pretty sure they combined to give me a brown one), and I just love what they’re able to bring to life in their backyard. It’s part floral, part vegetable patch and part grass for the dogs, plus several fruit trees thrown in. Which all adds up to the perfect place to relax in once the hot summer days have turned into cooler nights.
My mom always has baby succulents everywhere, because they make great gifts…and she’s addicted. Even I have trouble killing them!
I just love how she saves odds and ends and uses them as garden decor. This candle holder was part of a lovely set of delicate tea light stemware sent by Norwegian friends. The bottom broke off and wasn’t glue-able, so now it has a new life!
We were sitting out one night earlier this summer and noticed that the vine had grown through this little lamp. So cool, right?
I really love never having to buy lemons or limes (or tomatoes and cucumbers this summer, they had a bumper crop). I just always bring a batch home when I visit them!
Naked Ladies! Oh, sorry. If you insist on being formal, amaryllis belladonna. These were grown from bulbs given to my mom by a client years ago. When the family moved here in the 90s, she dug them up and brought them to the new garden.
Don’t believe everything you read. As with everything else, this garden is a true partnership between my parents. :)
Something else you nearly always find in their garden? Dogs! I love Cassidy’s big smile. She’s really the sweetest. If only she would stop licking my pant legs…
And her big sister Anja is never far behind…
That day my other brother’s dog Sprocket happened to be visiting while his dad was working an extra long shift. He doesn’t think much of the camera.
Now, if only this heat wave would pass so we could enjoy the garden more…
